EXECUTIVE ORDER declaring in effect the New Jersey Civil Defense Plan and authorizing the creation of Local Civil Defense Organizations.
WHEREAS, the responsibility for sustaining our national security must be shared by all our people; and
WHEREAS, the development of atomic weapons has already clearly demonstrated that any future conflict will involve the entire population as well as the armed forces of the Nation; and
WHEREAS, there exists a clear need for the establishment and co-ordination of adequate civil defense activities in the State and local governmnts,
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ALFRED E. DRISCOLL, Governor of the State of New Jersey, pursuant to the authority vested in me by the State Constitution and by Chapter 251 of the Laws of 1942, as amended by Chapter 86 of the Laws of 1949, do hereby order that the within New Jersey Civil Defense Plan be and hereby is in full force and effect; and the mayor or chief executive officer of each municipality in the State is hereby charged with the establishment of Local Civil Defense Organizations in accordance with the provisions of the said New Jersey Civil Defense Plan.
