EXECUTIVE ORDER #19

January 19, 1950

Executive Order #19 providing for a separate command for the Air Force units of the New Jersey National Guard.

WHEREAS, the Air Force is a separate component of the Federal Department of Defense, with command and administrative procedure operating entirely through Department of the Air Force channels; and

WHEREAS, the Chief of Staff of the State Department of Defense has recommended the establishment of a separate command for the Air Force units of the New Jersey National Guard; and

WHEREAS, it is desirable for the efficient training and administration of the Air National Guard of New Jersey, that the units thereof be commanded by the senior Air National Guard officer of the tactical Air Force units;

NOW, THEREFORE, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the Laws of this State, in such case made and provided, I, ALFRED E. DRISCOLL, Governor of the State of New JERSEY, DO HEREBY ORDER that the organization and command of the New Jersey National Guard be as follows:

a. Organization. The National Guard, except the Air Force units and the State Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, to the extent authorized by applicable Federal tables of organization, shall be organized and maintained as one or more divisions. Those units of the National Guard, except the Air Force units and the State Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, which by such tables of organization shall not be included within the divisions, shall be attached thereto for administration, training, discipline and supply.

b. Command. The Army units of the National Guard, except the State Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, shall be commanded by the senior officer of the line of such Army units, who shall be responsible for the administration, training, discipline, supply and general efficiency thereof.

The Air Force units of the National Guard shall be commanded by the senior Air Force officer of the tactical Air Force units, who shall be responsible for the administration, training, discipline, supply and general efficiency thereof.

This order shall take effect immediately.
